What do I need to do to get an HGV / LGV Licence?

To obtain an HGV licence, you will need to undertake adequate HGV training or LGV training from a qualified HGV driver training school.

Driving an HGV requires skill combined with knowledge and the right attitude and driving techniques.

To become a professional driver you'll need:

* the demanding driving skills required
* the knowledge to deal with all the regulations that apply to your work
* a comprehensive knowledge of The Highway Code including the meaning of traffic signs and road markings, especially those which indicate a restriction for HGVs

It is important that you have the correct training and instruction before taking your HGV practical test.

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has developed a voluntary register. For more information please contact the LGV Instructors Register.

Listed here are the HGV training and LGV training schools that are currently registered with the directory.
